Why Choose An Interior Designer?
This seems to be an ever so important question in these days. Many people think going with a designer is an expensive service and not beneficial with all the access we have to technology. One can google any topic, follow a celeb designer on instagram or pin many boards on Pinterest, but there is more behind this my friends….
The reason I got into this profession is because design has been a passion since I was a little girl. I would make homes for my dolls, this is written in my bio so no need to be repetitive. To throw it back further, my grandfather was a handy man, carpenter, and custom combiner. Had the latest tools and was one of the first to have an electric garage door in Saskatchewan around the early 60’s. My grandmother, his wife, was just as equally talented maybe even more. This little German lady would get up on the tractors with him, take care of the farm, hold down the home and sew clothing for my mom and her siblings (ever so chic). My dad’s mother was a business woman in Jamaica owning boutiques and real estate to name a few. She never took no for an answer (this could be a good thing or bad thing), and too was a seamstress like my moms mom. Finally, my dads dad was a driver for elite people in those days and my fav quote of his is “when ever feeling down, put on your best suit and head into town”. So you could say being fashionable, handy, and business savvy may just be in my blood…..

My grandfathers combines for his custom combining business. It was harvest season. My granma and him would both be in the combines working together.
Now onto my dad’s side of the family. Here is my grandma “Tunda” standing in her white dress she made and her fancy heels.

As a designer we know how to put it all together, somewhat of a visionary. I design sometimes on how I feel, what my design-tuition tells me, a material, or by someones personality that simply inspires me. Sometimes it is just seeing God’s work in nature, especially now with the fall colours in the trees. Interior design is not just picking colours, it is more to that – psychologist, therapist, project manager, liaison, buyer, problem solver you name it. We want people to interact with their spaces to the best of their capability and also bringing out their own style.
